We are pleased to announce works by Catharine Warren, on view from October 14th 2015.

CATHARINE WARREN was born in Portland, Oregon, and educated there and at Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied painting with Friedl Dzubas, print-making with Ansei Uchima, and art history under William Rubin and Barbara Rose.

After graduation she moved to Rome to paint and etch for a year, and from there to Paris to study various techniques of etching at the Academie Goetz. Once back in New York, she started to paint the torso, and landscape inspired abstract works that has made her name.

Over the years Catharine Warren’s paintings have been exhibited at the Gloria Luria Gallery in Miami, the Rutgers Barclay in Santa Fe, the Morse-Caponi Gallery in Detroit, the Arlene Schnitzer Gallery in Portland, the Aquavella and Kouros galleries in New York and the Galerie Hopkins-Thomas in Paris. She is represented in such corporate collections as Goldman Sachs and Chase, in the holdings of the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Albright-Knox Gallery, and in collections including those of Sid R. Bass, Anne Cox Chambers, Paul Haim, Mr. Paul Skinner, Miss Edith McBean, Mr. Waring Hopkins and Mr. and Mrs. Holcomb Green.

In 1991 she purchased as mas outside San Remy de Provence and lost no time in setting up a studio there; as she works, she looks into an ancient garden which had fallen into ruin and which she painstakingly re-established. She now happily divides her life between Provence and Manhattan.
